Back in the Saddle

Once again weeks have passed without a blog post. I can only blame a particularly nasty flu, compounded by travelling while sick. It put me flat on my back for a couple of weeks and I only really started feeling vaguely normal again this week. But enough snivelling, it’s time to thank Father Nurgle for his gifts and move on. I recently started carrying my Windows laptop into work. There were a number of reasons for this. The trackpad on my MacBook Air has gone on the blink. (I have the ungodly power to ruin trackpads on Apple machines after Read more…

Welcome Back Game of Thrones

I’m sure I wasn’t the only one sitting glued to the box by the return of Tyrion Lannister, Bron, John Snow, Danerys et al last night. I am sure of it because my wife and son were sitting right there with me. Which in itself is an unusual thing these days– normally our group television experience centres around watching a couple of episodes from a DVD box set like The Wire or Big Bang Theory. Watching a live (you know what I mean– it sounds better than non-time-shifted) broadcast at the same time as a whole lot of other people Read more…

Standard Bearer, Kuala Lumpur

In keeping with what is fast becoming a proud tradition of this blog, here are some pictures from the signing I did at the Standard Bearer, Kuala Lumpur a month or two ago. As ever there are some establishing shots of KL taken on my phone’s camera, then pictures taken by other folks who were kind enough to send them along. This was a most excellent signing and I would like to thank Wolf and Zen and Dzirhan and Norman and Jason and Jar Jar as well as those people whose names I have unfortunately forgotten for showing up and listening Read more…

Fun Atelier, Hong Kong

I meant to put this up a month ago but with my usual sloth-like speed I have somehow managed to delay doing so. After a couple of establishing shots of Hong Kong, specifically of the harbour as seen from the Star Ferry taken on my phone camera, these are pictures from my signing at Fun Atelier. This is a great hobby store reached by its own elevator –how cool is that?– on Hong Kong Island. As you can see if you look closely I was sporting my wino beard but somehow this did not discourage numerous people from approaching me Read more…

Celebrate!

I was watching my nine month old son this morning. He has just taught himself to stand by grabbing the struts of his cot and pulling himself upright. When he achieves this, he burbles and howls with happiness, does a little staggering dance and raises his hand in the air like a footballer who has just scored the winning goal in the last seconds of a World Cup final. He is clearly very happy indeed with the achievement of standing upright. Needless to say, I don’t feel (or behave) the same way when I drag myself from my bed and Read more…

The Curse of Nurgle, Reviews And Other Things

Last week I was struck down by the curse of Nurgle, a daemonic plague which resulted in me wheezing and gurgling and my voice becoming considerably deeper and huskier. I’ve been scaring people round the house by sounding like a Scottish Darth Vader. The end result of all this was that not much got done. There was no blog post for the first time in over a year and I am yet further behind with my deadlines. I am off to Nottingham for  the Warhammer 40,000 Doubles Tournament this weekend and then I shall be in Scotland for a long-booked Read more…
