Stuff!
So that was Gamesday then. As ever it was an enjoyable and, as I was sitting at a signing table between Dan Abnett and Graham McNeill, somewhat humbling experience. I got to see the newly released Bane of Malekith but during the chaos of departure yet again forgot to pick up an author copy. Never mind. I’ll do that at the upcoming Weekender. It was a pleasure to meet and chat with readers. It was also a pleasure to be able to catch up with Black Library writing and editing folks I’ve known for a long time and meet other folks Read more…
In the Czech Paradise
I admit it– I have been slacking off with the blog recently. In part it’s laziness, in part it’s because it’s the holiday season and in part it’s because of astounding global warming type heat. We arrived back from Norway in the middle of a heatwave– 37 degrees centigrade/98.6 Fahrenheit– this in a European city and an apartment without air conditioning. I hail from Scotland. In such temperatures the only thing Scotsmen do is melt or turn a bright shade of sunburnt pink and lie on their backs whining (manfully) about heat. Combine hot nights and a sleepless toddler and Read more…
Author’s Notes: City of Strife
City of Strife was the fifth Kormak book I wrote, even though it is being released as the fourth in the series. Yes, that’s right, I wrote a complete novel, Taker of Skulls, and I sat on it while I wrote this one. I even had what I thought was a good reason for doing so. Taker of Skulls is a book about dwarves. It might best be described as Red Nails set in Moria. Weaver of Shadows, book three in the series, is about Elves. It just did not feel right to me moving directly from Dwarves to Elves Read more…
City of Strife Released
Book Four of the Kormak Saga, City of Strife came back from editing earlier than expected so I released it today. It’s a classic urban sword and sorcery adventure involving undead gangsters, cannibal were-rat cultists and impending civil war in the greatest city of the kingdom of Taurea. Kormak is caught between the warring factions and must solve the mystery of what is really going on before catastrophe ensues. Naturally there is plenty of sword-wielding action and monster-slaying as well. Pick up the book at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Smashwords and Barnes and Noble right now. The price is a very affordable Read more…
Floodland
Radka put up some more very impressive pictures of the recent Prague floods here. Go take a look. I think they explain the semi-Apocalyptic tone of my last post rather well. The rain has stopped now and I have temporarily suspended building the ark on our roof. I think the State of Emergency is over, in the city at least. The Metro is still not working, lots of parks are still closed off. I feel a strange urge to go and listen to the Sisters of Mercy now. And why not? It’s been a while since I heard This Corrosion.
A Cosy Catastrophe
It’s been raining a lot here in Prague recently, to the point where I have been making my usual dumb joke about how if I had wanted weather like this I would have stayed in Scotland. The rain has gone on for well over a week now, sometimes a light drizzle, often a monsoonal downpour, pretty much always there. You can hear the quiet roar of it in the courtyard of our building at night. It’s like being caught beneath a very small waterfall. Whenever you go out for a walk there is always a faint hissing noise in the Read more…
